Hi, I'm an Ambassador1

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” -2 Corinthians 5:20

What does it mean to be an ambassador of God? Does being a Christian automatically make you an ambassador of God? If so, do you have to live differently? Let’s answer these questions.

This is a topic that has been super relevant for me recently as I fully understood for the first time (while I was in Kenya) what it meant to live for God. Before going to Kenya, everyone who knew me knew I was a Christian, but whenever I was around my non-christian friends I never brought God up. I was so afraid that they would judge me, think of me differently, and wished I just didn’t talk about Him. I wouldn’t talk about going to church or anything along those lines. I was afraid of being judged. Which obviously didn’t lead to them asking me any questions about God.

We did A LOT of street ministry while in Kenya, and I realized that God isn’t something I should hide, and I hadn’t been representing Him well in my life at home. If I am an ambassador of God, showing others what life with Him is like, why would I skip out on those details of my life? Why would I be ashamed of bringing Him up in everyday conversation? After all, He is the reason I am here to begin with! Once I came home I chose to talk freely about Him in casual ways, and the first time I did that, it opened the door for an amazing God-focused conversation I was able to have with a friend. And it wasn’t awkward!!

What is an ambassador? According to Wikipedia - “An ambassador is an official envoy, especially a high-ranking diplomat who represents a state and is usually accredited to another sovereign state or to an international organization." Ambassadors are those in a place of honor who has the respect and trust of their superior, who then send them out into various places in the world. God placed us on this earth to represent Him, to be ambassadors for His kingdom! It’s a huge deal!!!

Being an ambassador of God means that we represent Him well with our actions, words, and lifestyle. What you say, how you act, and how you treat others is a way to show the people around you what life with God is like, and it is a way to show them what God Himself is like.

When you give your life to God, it automatically makes you an ambassador. YOU now get to represent Him. Everything changes and nothing of your old life gets to stay.

You get to live differently when you join your life with God. It’s not something you have to do, or are forced to do, but it’s a privilege. When you represent God well, you’re practicing becoming more like Jesus. And let’s be real Jesus showed us how to be ambassadors of God during His time on earth. He taught others through actions and words what God is like, hearts were moved and lives were changed.

So I want to encourage you to boldly step out and live your life different from those around you. Don’t be afraid to bring God up and don’t shy away from living your life above reproach. You get to pave the way and implement a change in your home, school, workplace, and friendships. Live how you would want God to be represented.

So, I want to encourage you to analyze your actions and lifestyle. How can you represent God best in your life? What are some things you could change to represent Him better? Just think of it, God could use YOU to bring your friend to Him!

Thank you so much for reading please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!!
